A Food affaire
The Lower East Side Takes On
A Food affaire
Parisians homesick for their country’s joie de vivre or anyone craving a taste of the o’l Eiffel will relish the flavors of affaire: a new French bistro-lounge that serves classic and casual French cuisine. affaire innovates by offering an inexpensive bistro with a sexy nightlife ambiance and experience equal to sitting in a trendy lounge in Saint Germain in Paris.
Located in the heart of the Lower East Side, wooden ceilings and old-shoe comfort mingle with tasteful modern chandeliers, brick walls and large playful illuminated photographs. The space is reminiscent of a “Burlesque Chateau”. The servers of affaire add to the effect, each showcasing a custom hat designed by renowned Christys’ of London, and tasteful French-Maid touches like feather-duster topped pens. Patrons will want to start at the upstairs bar with a fruit-infused vodka cocktail and take in the sounds of the DJ spinning soulful house perched above the bistro floor; after dinner service will feature a male ‘bottle butler’ to pour featured spirits and champagnes. Then there are the two lower level rooms, which give the overall space a labyrinth-like feel.
The kitchen, helmed by longtime bistro Chef Edgar Navarrete (La Mediterranee, L’Entrecote, Café du Soleil,) offers a casual ‘build-your-own’ dining experience perfect for a meal with a date, friends or family. The kitchen dishes out the sort of comfort food you would find in your travels through France—staples like escargots Bourgogne, beef bourginon, coq au vin, fall-off the bone duck confit and mussels marinier and in-house inventions like chicken brochette au poivre and hearty bowls of “liliane’s” onion soup (the owner’s Parisian mother’s recipe). affaire serves only organic beef and chicken. And of course divine profiteroles, creme brule and mousse au chocolate. “Petit Plates” style menu ranges $5-$14: (translation of “bon affaire”: bargain.)
The three candle sconce-lined rooms here at affaire create an elegant, inviting lounge space with many nooks and a 200-person capacity, perfect for your large or small events (affairs!). The space exhudes romance with its gold ceilings, plush couches and french upholstered mirrors. The décor creates the perfect mood for the nightly burlesque performance, created by one of the original Pussycat Dolls, Kiva Dawson. DJ’s downstairs in the Candle Room and the Lounge feature New York’s most talented, spinning an eclectic mix of favorites perfect for birthdays, special events and holidays.
The first brunch will begin on Sunday, January 9th to recall your Saturday night affairs over a make-your-own mimosa & champagne kit available for $25! Creative brunch plates include short rib sloppy Jacques on a grilled baguette, baguette french toast with warm strawberries, house smoked salmon or crabmeat benedict, truffled eggs.

I could use a place like that in my neighborhood as long as I don't have to eat any snails.
