  The Typical Day in a Writer's Life

      Since I have the convenience of a home office, it is very easy to just crawl out of bed and get to work. I often start the day in my pajamas and have every intention of doing so until I wind up having to use video-conferencing or such!

      I would say it takes me one to two hours to check and respond to emails, forums and social/professional networks. Assuming I don’t have any pressing deadlines, I start my research and self-promotion. I scour the internet for new idea, new contacts and submit my site(s) to search engines and all. I also check “hits” on my Author site and search terms used to find me. This is all done with the ultimate goal of maximizing my time marketing and promoting my work.

      Working out of a home office also has the disadvantage of receiving personal phone calls and even sometimes surprise visits from folks who don’t always understand “I’ve got to get back to work now”. And of course, sometimes when the housework has piled up, it is hard to ignore even when you go so far as to close your office door to the outside world!

      By the time the afternoon rolls around, I am usually eating lunch at my desk and I begin to write, actually just write. It could be an idea for a new novel, a new blog, or putting together an article from my notes after an interview or special event coverage. Usually I find that once the words begin to flow it is hard to stop and I frequently flit from one project to another as the thoughts and words come to me.

      A writer is ALWAYS working because the mind never stops. I keep a To-Do list and project book on my desk so those ideas that seem to come out of nowhere are remembered the next time I am looking for inspiration.
