Today it is my pleasure to introduce L.E. Harvey, author of the novel Loving Her.

Tell me about L E Harvey…
Tell you about L. E. Harvey, huh? Well, I'm a rather unique person. Very open, outspoken and creative :) My interests range from animals to forensics to classic cars, and pretty much everything in between :) LOL. If I had to describe myself in one word it would be: oxymoronic. Only I could pull off being a neo-hippie and loving big, loud, gas-guzzling engines at the same time! LOL :)
You’ve said that THE CHARACTERS IN Loving Her are little bits of you and people you know – Is there any one character YOU connect with most?
I would have to say that Linda is probably the character I relate to the most. She's the woman I've always wanted to be (tall, beautiful, a mechanic, fully devoted to her woman). She's strong, but she's not afraid to show her emotions either. Her love and commitment to Katie are what I try to emulate in my relationship every day :)
Why did you decide to tackle some of the issues in Loving Her? (ie: gay bashing, family acceptance/betrayal)
I tackled the issues that I did in Loving Her because they were issues I had faced, friends had faced, or they were just too important to me not to bring them up. I wanted to show people the gamut of the issues we face in the gay community. I also wanted to show the fact that the girls are real. They are REAL human beings with REAL lives, REAL dreams and aspirations. They're not any different from their heterosexual counterparts. If a bashing happened to a straight couple, it would make the news & people would be appalled. But since it was a gay bashing, somehow our society makes it seem less significant. I hope that by addressing those issues, I was able to help people change their thinking.
If you were to write a sequel to Loving Her to take place 10 years in the future, would you see the couples still together and how would you imagine society will treat them as a whole?
If I was to write a sequel 10 years in the future, would the couples be together & how would I view society as a whole? That's a GOOD one. For the couples, I'd say yes, they'd be together. I'm not sure about Liz and Jen, though. Jen may have passed sometime over that decade. For society, I would certainly view it as more open and accepting, though I don't think we'd see the changes we want to see happen in just a decade. Gay marriage would still probably only be available in a few states; hatred will always be around, etc.
You had a variety of occupations in the book – how did you do your research for each?
Yes, I have a GREAT variety of occupations for the girls. With the exception of Donna & Brynn, our two police officers, I have done all the other jobs. I was a dancer; I taught at U Penn (which is why I placed Katie there); I'm a wannabe mechanic ;) LOL; I'm a writer, and I'm also a model. So, thankfully the research was really my life. And I'll admit that I was a bad writer and did not do ANY research for the police jobs! LOL :)
Let us know if you have any appearances/book signings coming up?
I don't have any signing events or anything coming up right now. I'm pretty much taking the summer off due to a lack of transportation & way too much writing I need to do ;) I'm hoping to get back at it in the fall :)
How is your online book discussion going?
The online book discussions are going well. They're small, but I'm getting some great questions & answers, so I feel like it's a good start & they will continue to grow.
On the first of the month, I ask questions to readers about one of the stories in Loving Her & see what their perspective is. On the fifteenth of every month is Ask the Author day where I'll collect questions e-mailed to me & post them in a blog so that people can really get to know me as a writer. They're available on my MySpace page and also my blogger profile.

Loving Her is a collection of short stories celebrating love and life between women; each story tells a story, and together, they create a depth and understanding of women's love for each other and for life.
