First off, I would like to say what an honor it is to be featured in the “Women in Charge” blog, what a wonderful idea and what a great way of giving back, paying forward, and doing a random act of kindness. Gracias.
My position is as CEO, founder, and jack of all trades for my new online business, ezbilingual. The website offers multicultural/bilingual books children’s books for sale to help children become proficient bilinguals. It is especially designed for schools and parents in dual language programs who want to help their children develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in two languages. However, homeschooling parents, bilingual parents, and those who see the value of bilingualism will find the site exciting and educational.
I started this website with Eduardo Estrada Montenegro, a writer/journalist/poet from Nicaragua, who had written and illustrated some wonderful children’s stories that I felt demonstrated a different culture, point of view, and experience which would make wonderful bilingual ebooks. The ebooks are in English and Spanish and work on either a Mac or a PC. The books have voice so the child can follow along as the story is being read and can see the difference in both the English and Spanish telling of the story.
Additionally, to the books, we have a newsletter that will feature tips for enhancing bilingualism for yourself, your child, or your students and will provide resources for those wishing to improve their skills in English and in Spanish.
Our vision is to have an educational website that will allow individuals who wish to enhance their own bilingual skills or to help their children become proficient bilinguals to get information on books, stories, music, and poems that help promote biliteracy.
As an educator who has worked in the field of education for many years, I feel that I have the experiences to give me expertise in both the content and the professional aspects of starting a business of this type.
I am a firm believer in biliteracy and have been working on developing my own tri-literacy skills in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. My educational background has given me an opportunity to try these strategies, so I know that they work. My advice to young entrepreneurs is to find and passion and follow it everywhere. Nothing is as rewarding as doing what you love and loving what you do. When you avocation is your vocation, then you are truly living a purposeful life.
My website is at: ezbilingual.net and the books are ready to be ordered. Everyone who subscribes to the newsletter will receive a free ebooklet on Margarita by Ruben Dario.
Hope you all stop by and visit…bilingual books are ready to be published and a newsletter sign-up is coming soon.
